Our Record

MPG

We achieved this high level of efficiency at the SAE Supermileage Competition in June 2018 hosted by Eaton and Cummins in Marshall, MI.

The combustion car is running on an aluminum frame and carbon fiber body built in early 2018, and running with a Briggs and Stratton Junior 206 engine, as mandated by the SAE Supermileage Competition.

We enter our combustion vehicle in two different competitions. First is SAE Supermileage, where we use Iso-Octane fuel. In 2018, we won three awards here. The Endurance Award, for most cumulative mileage across all successful runs, the best fuel estimate for calculating closest to our final mileage before the competition started, and most importantly, a second place overall finish with 1888 mpg (a team record) and 380 Design Report score. We have also achieved third place or better in eight of our ten competitions at SAE Supermileage. Our other competition is the Shell Eco-Marathon, where we recently placed 1st in the prototype category in 2019 with 1525 mpg using 87 Octane gasoline!

For this year, we're working on multiple major projects to get the most out of our existing car and engine. These plans include changes to optimize the rolling resistance of our tires, the power output of the engine, and the efficiency of our drivetrain system.
